I’m so thankful for the long weekend. Did I ever make use of it. Lots of relaxing, lounging around my parent’s place just taking it easy. There was lots of food and lots of family to share it with. All the things a holiday should be about, really.
One family member that I really miss when I’m in the city is my dog, Buster. He’s a golden lab and he’s such a good dog. He’s great at fetching sticks and isn’t bad at playing dead. I snuck him some turkey after the big meal and I think he was extra happy to have me home for a bit. I miss having something to look after when I’m back at my apartment, so I think it’s time to get a pet. The tricky part will be in getting something I can take care of around my busy schedule. I think a dog might be a bit too demanding.
I’ll have to think about it tonight while at work. I’m actually looking forward to getting back to the restaurant and making a few dollars. Pet food probably won’t be cheap.

I made it. Friday. Sweet relief. After a crazy week I can put my feet up for a nice long weekend at home.
I’m catching the bus to Cape Breton in a few minutes. It’ll be a long ride, but I’ll have time to read a new book. The last time I took a bus we were in a minor accident on the road, so I hope nothing like that happens this time. It must suck to be a bus driver, dealing with bad motorists every day. I guess they must take it in stride, but some of the stupid things people do behind the wheel can be really dangerous. I’m glad my job has no potential for high speed collisions.
Getting home will be good for me. Mom’s turkey is always a big hit and getting back to a slower pace will be a nice change. See you all next week.

Ted’s girlfriend came in to the restaurant yesterday and they had a huge blow up. It was pretty intense. I guess he’s not quite the ladies man that he’s made himself out to be. Long story short, I went with him to a hockey game last night since he no longer had a date.
There were a lot of fans there and the crowd was pretty pumped. There were a ton of young people working at the venue, too. From taking tickets to serving drinks there were lots of jobs that people my age were doing. I had no idea so many people worked there. It would’ve been good info when I was on the job hunt.
Mid-way through the game Ted and I were in our seats and a girl was coming down the aisle selling popcorn. One of the players gave a slap shot and the puck came flying towards her. I tried to warn her but she didn’t understand me. She was hit in the knee and after a paramedic looked at her, I think she went to the hospital. Pretty freaky, really. I would’ve never imagined that as one of the hazards of the job.
I just wish I could’ve warned her. Ted told me not to worry about it, but I still feel bad over the whole thing.

It’s been a busy week. After the weekend camping trip I’ve been busy with work and school has been full with assignments and mid-terms. It’s a lot to take handle, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Thanksgiving is this weekend and I’m headed home to Cape Breton on Friday.
I’m really looking forward to mom’s cooking and some quiet time with dad. Nice to just get a break from the city, too.
The trick will be in getting there. My scooter will never make that journey, especially in the rain, so it looks like I’ll be busing it.
Ted takes the bus all the time and doesn’t seem to mind it. He was telling me that there’s cameras on all the buses now, probably for workplace safety reasons. The only thing this bus will get on camera is me having a really long nap. I’m going to need one when this week is over.

Ever notice that when two things you love come together it’s way better than the sum of the parts? Think Reese’s Pieces. Or rock and roll, peaches and cream, or Pam and Tommy Lee. Okay, so it doesn’t always hold true, but I digress.
Today I’m able to share with you two of my favourite things colliding in a very cool way: miming and workplace safety.
Picnicface created this video and I thought you might like it. I love this kind of humour and the fact that it features a mime is just the icing on the cake.
I dig it. And I’d love to hear what you think of it.
PS - camping was great. I didn’t get too cold and we left before the rains came.

Wow what a week. I’ve wrapped up classes, finished my assignments and have the next couple of days off work. Ted thinks it’s time to get out of the city for a boy’s weekend of camping. So my gear is packed and he’s coming to pick me up soon. I’ll sure I’ll be full of stories when I get back. So long as I don’t wake up with things looking like this, I’ll be the proverbial happy camper.

Today was a tease. I was out at lunch and it was hot and sunny. But now that I’m writing this it looks gray and very much like fall again. My blast of summer was short, but hopefully it’ll hit again for the camping trip with Ted. He’s really excited about it and picked up a few things from MEC today so we can do some outdoor cooking. He’s the cook, so I’ll leave that stuff to him. I’m just worried about staying warm.
Some classmates were talking about Halloween today. I can’t believe that’s coming up in just a month. I think I feel the same way this polar bear does about it.

Off to work I go. Only a few more shifts before the adventure in the great outdoors. Still looking for suggestions on where to go.

So it’s 10 minutes to 2 this afternoon. I’d just finished an assignment and had a late lunch and I realize I’m going to be late for class. So I start booking it, running like mad towards campus. I’m pretty fast and I was making good time. But with today’s rain, the ground was slick in spots. I was almost to the door when
BAM
Down I went. And Hard. Thankfully I landed on my rear and my book bag broke the worst of the fall. I felt just like Conan O’Brien, but thankfully I didn’t hit my head.
So I collect myself and my stuff and move into class. And there’s no one there.
I’m an hour early for class. It’s tomorrow that I have class at 2.
I need to get myself a day planner or something. These work and school schedules are getting too much to keep track of.

Another weekend in the books. It was a busy one. Trying to stay on top of school while managing a job can be tricky. I’ve had to cut down on my Si-time just to get everything done. I’ll keep the blog updated, so don’t go anywhere. There just might be a few late night updates like this one.
I’m not alone in working hard, though. Seems most people I know were busy with school and/or work. In fact, it seemed like everybody was working for the weekend.
Yeah, there we go. Guilty pleasure.
In other news, Ted wants to do some male bonding this weekend. It’s going to be October and he wants to go camping. I’m freezing already. I guess if it’s dry we’ll give it a go. Anyone know of any good fall camping spots? A provincial park perhaps?

Wow. What a week. Started my new job, managed classes and homework and snuck in enough sleep to keep me going. The exciting life of a busy/starving student.
Ted continues to keep me entertained at work. His time in Alberta has given him lots of stories and I think he’s just been waiting for someone to listen to him. There’s nothing else for me to do while scrubbing dishes, so I’m his captive audience. It seems he’s quite the ladies man. I’m getting his version of how the west was won.
For all the good things in my life right now, Ted still thinks I’m missing something: a lady. He doesn’t think my quiet ways are doing me any favours in that department. He might be right, but I’m just not a natural like he is. Seems like there’s a lot going on in the city this weekend, lots of bands playing, Louis CK is in town too. I’ll probably catch the end of the film fest and enjoy some good cinema. You never know where you’ll meet your leading lady.

I've never been much of a talker. That makes relationships tricky for me. One of my exes put it best. She said it just takes a long time to get comfortable with me. Libraries and movie theatres are my favourite places to hang out. I live in an apartment downtown, and I think I make an excellent neighbour. I find my biggest challenge lately is a job. I just can't seem to keep one.
